Legal Consultation – Assignment of NIF (Portuguese Tax Identification Number)

What is the NIF?

The NIF (Tax Identification Number) is nothing more than a tax identification number, assigned by the Tax and Customs Authority (AT) to each taxpayer. 

It consists of nine digits and must be assigned to all residents and non-residents in Portugal who are subject to (or will be subject to) tax obligations in the country.

Required Documents:


Identification document - Passport or European Citizen Card 


Proof of address - For example: driver's license
